June 19

Doors at 6:00PM
Show at 7:00PM

Juneteenth has become a day for African Americans to celebrate their freedom, culture, and achievements. It is a day for all Americans to celebrate African American history and rejoice in their freedom. It is the name for a holiday celebrating June 19, 1865, the day when Union soldiers arrived in Texas and spread the word that President Lincoln had delivered his Emancipation Proclamation. News traveled so slowly in those days that Texas did not hear of Lincoln's Proclamation, which he gave on January 1, 1863, until more than two years after it was issued!

Known for her bringing exquisite tone color and expressivity to an unusual breadth of repertoire, Nnenna Ogwo has performed in Europe, the Middle East, South America and the United States. Her artistic acumen and acute scholarship result in a profound technical command of her instrument and a thoroughly engaging stage presence. Most recently she has performed at the Yamaha Piano Salon, Steinway Hall and the Tenri Cultural Institute in Manhattan as well as the Unplugged in Red Hook series in Brooklyn.

An American pianist of Caribbean and African descent, Ms. Ogwo began playing the piano at age six, studying at the Peabody Conservatory Preparatory and graduating with honors in piano and composition. She received her Bachelor of Music at Oberlin Conservatory and under the auspices of a Fulbright Fellowship undertook graduate study at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary where she studied with Ferenc Rados and was granted a Graduate Certificate. Ms. Ogwo completed her Master of Music and Doctor of the Musical Arts degrees with Gilbert Kalish at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her former teachers and coaches include the late Gyorgy Sebok, Leon Fleisher, Bob McDonald and the late Julius Levine

An avid performer and highly sought-after musician, Juliette Jones has established herself as a consummate artist. A multi-genre acoustic and electric violinist, she also works as an arranger and composer and has contracted for a number of live, television and multimedia events, including the 51st New York Film Festival.

A BMI composer, Juliette has arranged and recorded for Grammy®-Award winning producers Om'Mas Keith and Cory Rooney and has taped and performed for the Golden Globes, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Glee, MTV Unplugged, Saturday Night Live, BET Honors, the Met Gala, Good Morning America, NBA All-Stars and the Late Show with David Letterman.

Juliette has collaborated with a veritable list of "who's who" in the music industry including Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Justin Timberlake, Janelle Monáe, Toshi Reagon, John Legend, Pharrell, Common, Frank Ocean, Hit-Boy, Florence + The Machine, J. Cole, Kid Cudi, Richard Smallwood and Sheila E.
