A MURRAY LITTLE CHRISTMAS
MURRAY HILL, DIRTY MARTINI, ANGIE PONTANI & more
and featuring the BRIAN NEWMAN QUARTET
Comedian and larger-than-life personality MURRAY HILL (aka Mr. Showbiz) gives the much needed gift of holiday cheer and entertainment to New York City with his legendary Yuletide tradition: A MURRAY LITTLE CHRISTMAS at Joe’s Pub, Friday, November 25th with two shows at 7pm and 9:30pm.
He's coming early this year and it's a double-whammy: it's his official birthday too.
Expect an evening of hilarious and wacky skits with the cast, Hot Toddy burlesque, a sleigh full of cheesy holiday songs, plenty of nuts, fruits and tree trimming (and hopefully a Cookie Puss birthday cake from Carvel).
Everyone is invited as Murray re-creates one of his infamous holiday cocktail parties, live on stage. The show will be a cozy, chestnut warming, homey affair direct from his bachelor pad living room (one large enough to accommodate 4 merry musicians, 3 strutting Santa showgirls, 2 swinging sisters, and 1 showbiz legend named Murray Hill). Murray also promises several tender moments when he sings his signature “Have Yourself A Murray Little Christmas” (tissues and ear plugs will be available to the audience upon request). A Murray Little Christmas is a cocktail-style variety show packed with silver bells and holiday hi-balls. It’s the liveliest Christmas cocktail party of the season and everyone is guaranteed to have a gay old time!
This year, Murray will be reunited with his long time showbiz trumpeter pal BRIAN NEWMAN and his BRIAN NEWMAN QUARTET, who recently toured and recorded with LADY GAGA and TONY BENNETT.
DIRTY MARTINI (neo-burlesque legend), CARMINE C. COVELLI (a.k.a. SEBASTIAN THE ELF, drummer in The Julie Ruin and Tender Moments) and ANGIE PONTANI (Italian Stallionette). More special guests to be announced.
This non-returnable gift of holiday entertainment captures the joy and jubilation, the Murray-ment and magnificence of the holiday season (all denominations, orientations and sexual proclivities will be celebrated). Have Yourself a Murray Little Christmas now, you'll be glad you did.
NYC legend, comedian, host, and international entertainer MURRAY HILL,“the hardest working middle-aged man in show business,” is Mr. Showbiz. You can see him in movies, TV, music videos, online, books, theaters, comedy clubs, and even calling BINGO numbers. He is a relentless shtick slinger, larger-than-life personality and freewheeling ad-libber. Murray’s razor sharp wit and frenetic showman antics have delighted critics. The New York Times anointed Murray “Downtown’s New ‘It’ Boy.” He’s been included in “Best of New York” lists in the Village Voice, Time Out, Paper, New York Magazine; inducted into PAPER’s Nightlife Hall of Fame; selected as OUT magazine’s Top 100 influential performers twice; included in New York Magazine’s “Fifty Most Iconic Gender Benders of All Time,” PAPER’s “Top Ten ‘It’ Boys in NYC Nightlife History,” and named one of the Top 12 gender-bending performers in NYC by Time Out.
He tours the U.S. with burlesque superstar DITA VON TEESE and recently made his Australian debut at The Sydney Opera House starring in CLUB SWIZZLE which went on to tour major festivals. He starred in his own pop culture show on MTV’s digital network entitled SHOWBIZ and was the U.S. Showbiz Correspondent for Channel 4 in UK. Murray’s recent television appearances include: TLC’s LI Medium, LOGO’s New Now Next and Cocktails & Classics, HBO’s Bored to Death, HBO’s Taxi Cab Confessions, BRAVO’s Real Housewives of New York and music videos for PEACHES, TV ON THE RADIO, THE REGRETTES, BRIDGET EVERETT and GOSSIP.
Murray is New York’s “reigning patriarch of downtown performance”(New York Times). His eponymous The Murray Hill Show was the hottest ticket in town for a decade at such notorious joints as Fez, Mo Pitkin’s and The Zipper. Murray’s annual sold-out A Murray Little Christmas is a “downtown institution” (New York Times). Dubbed “The King of Comedy” by Time Out, he’s performed his comedy at top showrooms like Upright Citizen’s Brigade, Gotham Comedy Club, LA’s Billy Wilder Theater, and headlined his own show at Caroline’s on Broadway and LA’s IMPROV.
Fulfilling his dream to become a New York City jazz man, trumpeter and crooner Brian Newman is now known globally as Lady Gaga’s jazz bandleader, having most recently collaborated with her and Tony Bennett on the Grammy-winning album and tour, Cheek to Cheek. Brian’s trumpet performance with Gaga was also captured on 2011’s A Very Gaga Holiday EP as well as a special jazz version of Gaga’s hit “You and I.” Brian has also appeared on notable television broadcasts including PBS’s Great Performances; NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center, The Tonight Show, Today, Saturday Night Live and New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly; ABC’s A Very Gaga Thanksgiving and Good Morning America; BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing; BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend; MTV’s Video Music Awards; Bravo’s Watch What Happens: LIVE!; and NYC’s Columbus Day Parade.
He recorded his debut album Live From New York City at The Plaza Hotel‘s legendary Oak Room. Brian continues to hold court with his longstanding weekly residency as bandleader at Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and select Friday nights at NYC’s iconic Rainbow Room with his orchestra.
